An added attraction of this years
Metropolitan regatta is the opportunity to row on the Olympic regatta course -
an inspiration for any athlete in an Olympic year!
When you visit
Dorney
Lake
in June preparations for London 2012 will already be in full swing and you
should be able to see the grandstands and other structures taking shape along
the shore line.
The good news is that we do not expect any disruption to the on-water
facilities, so we are pleased to confirm that racing will not be affected.
This includes the boating arrangements and circulation pattern. The Olympic
preparations will mean some restrictions for athletes and visitors on the
shore, and there will be some changes to our normal arrangements.
The precise details will not be clear until nearer the regatta, as much
will depend on progress with construction and we will clarify any changes
nearer the time. However, it is
already clear that the usual trailer parking will be restricted, so remember
to bring your trestles as there will be increased demand for the racking
spaces. We will also have to place
extra restrictions on cycling. Coaches should still be able to follow their
races on the island, but only to about 1700m, as after this point the island
will be almost completely blocked.
Spectators on the other side of the
lake will be sharing their space with the Olympic grandstand construction
site.
Retail and refreshment concessions and loos will all be available, but
may not be where you would normally expect to find them.
As we will be sharing the site this
year with the Olympic preparations, including several "hard hat"
areas, there will be LOCOG staff present to look after their facilities and
help keep the public safe. We ask
all athletes, officials and other visitors to the regatta to please comply
with any instructions from LOCOG staff, as well as regatta officials, to
ensure a safe and happy day at Metropolitan Regatta.
The
regatta organisers hope that the visible preparations for London 2012 will add
something special to your visit this year and wish all competitors a good
weekend’s racing on the Olympic regatta course.
