Accommodation & Directions to Dorney Rowing Lake

Since it began in 1866 the Metropolitan Amateur Regatta (the Met) has moved around a bit. The objective has always been to find the best location in the South East for top class rowing competitors. On 26th May 2001, the Met became the first major open regatta on the purpose-built rowing course at Dorney Lake near Eton. The new course, designed to provide fair and safe multi-lane racing, has excellent boating facilities as well as a very pleasant parkland setting for spectators.

Catering for serious rowers

The Met offers a comprehensive range of events for men, women and juniors. Most events are offered on both Saturday and Sunday. Seven lanes over 2,000 metres are available for large numbers of up-and-coming rowers and championship events.

The accurately buoyed course with its graded gravel banks offers flat and consistent rowing water, even in windy conditions.

The vast new boathouse - or 'pavilion', as it is referred to at Dorney Lake - provides the best changing and showering facilities that one could wish to find at a regatta. There is a spacious trailer park and temporary boat racking for as many as 120 eights.

Supporters and spectators

There is a cycle path on the southern side of the course for coaches and supporters. A good access road and vast expanses of grassland provide parking, picnicking and walking areas along the lake. A grass bank, with some tentage for weather protection, provides a grandstand for the finish. Pedestrians are asked to keep away from the cycle track and
cyclists should stick to the areas where cycling is permitted.

Bar and catering facilities are available in the pavilion whilst its large balcony affords a splendid view down the course and over the comings and going in the boating area.
