Metropolitan Regatta 2008
COURSE: Six/Seven/Eight lanes
2000m on still water
RACING: Under ARA rules &
water safety code - 8am to 7pm
ENTRY
FEES:
Eights .................. £96
Fours/Quads ......... £52
Pairs/Doubles ....... £36
Single Sculls ......... £18
STATUS: Entries are restricted
as follows:
On
the SATURDAY
All single scullers must be above novice standard.
On
the SUNDAY
Entries
in women’s S3 events must be at least S4 standard. There are no restrictions
on open sweep oar events. All single scullers must be above novice standard.
In single sculls the intention is that all
competitors shall be above novice standard, although we accept that some
scullers have not lost their novice status but have a racing record which shows
that they are of a higher standard. Before the draw the Regatta will look at the
size of entry in sculling events and at all those scullers who are novice
according to the ARA’s records. Priority will be given to those novice
scullers who appear to us to have the best racing record, based on such criteria
as
Having won a non-qualifying S3, S4 or Novice
event.
Having won a S3, S4 or Novice division in a
head race, as long as the Regatta is satisfied that the division concerned was
competitive.
Regrettably, self-belief or a history of
racing in S3 are not acceptable justifications.
Any sculler who does not communicate any evidence
of their record to the Regatta will be less likely to be accepted, as
the Regatta will make no positive steps to make checks.
With sweep oar crews, we ask crews to be realistic
as to whether they really are at least S4 standard. It is more difficult to lay
down hard and fast rules, as at S3 level the number of points is not a good
guide to a crew’s speed. Our aim is to provide competitive racing, and we
would hope that all entries are capable of being within 15 seconds of the winner
of the event. If a crew has any doubts they should contact the Entries
Secretary.
Doubling up
No competitor may enter a sweep oar event and a
sculling event on the same day.
In sweep oar events a competitor may only compete
at two adjacent status levels, while in sculling events a difference of two
status levels is acceptable.
Competitors may compete in both School/Junior
events and Senior events.
The following combinations are acceptable -
E 1x and S2 1x, S2 1x and E 4x, S1 8 and S2
4-.
The following are not acceptable
E 1x and S3 1x (more than 2 levels sculling),
S3 1x and S3 4+ (sculling and sweep oar),
E 8 and S2 4- (not adjacent levels in sweep
oar),
Lwt E 1x and S3 1x (Lightweight Elite is
still Elite).
There is no restriction between days, so someone
can row Elite 8 on one day and scull S3 1x on the other.
If a crew makes a substitution after the draw they
no longer have to abide by these rules, but no allowance will be made if the
Regatta has to change the order of racing.
The Regatta will attempt to give as much time
between races for crews that double up, and these rules make it more likely that
we can allow a reasonable gap. Crews should note that we normally achieve at
least 40 minutes for all crews that are doubling up. Nevertheless doubling up is
always at the competitor’s own risk.
Competitors must be registered
Crews are reminded that the all competitors
represented British clubs must be registered. This will also apply to
substitutes. Foreign crews are not affected by this rule.
Over-subscribed events
It may be necessary to limit the number of entries
in some events. If this is the case we will first eliminate any crews that have
not provided complete entries. After that the main criterion will be the time at
which an entry was received. It should be noted that this will give an advantage
to clubs using the Online Entries system. The Regatta may also consider a
crew’s status and whether a club has made more than one entry.
Under-subscribed events
The Regatta will not normally run an event with
three or fewer entries. Where there are insufficient entries in an event we will
try to move crews into the next higher status. Please advise us if you would
prefer anything different, such as moving into a different type of boat. We will
try to contact clubs, so please give us telephone numbers that will be manned
over the draw weekend.
Confirming that entries have been received
The Regatta is happy to receive a call to confirm
that entries have been received, but we request that only one such call is made.
On-line and Paper Entries
The Regatta prefers entries to be made using OARA.
However we continue to accept paper entries.
Contact Details
Please make sure that your contact details
are up to date, especially if you are using OARA. The draw information and Car
Park Passes will be sent electronically, so please make sure that you given us
the correct email address.
E-mail communications
“Anti-spam” software may result in genuine
messages being filtered out. You are advised to check if no acknowledgement or
reply is received.
Payment
All entry fees must be paid before the draw. The
Regatta regrets that it cannot accept incomplete entries. The Regatta will not
be using the OARA payment system, so cheques should be sent to Entries
Secretary, Metropolitan Regatta, c/o London Rowing Club, Embankment, Putney,
London SW15 1LB. Cheques should be made payable to “Metropolitan Amateur
Regatta”. Please identify the
club and which crews the payment refers to on the back of the cheque. The
Regatta is also able to accept credit card payments, but we must get extra
details. We request that you send the basic information electronically, then
phone through the security details.
If all or part of the Regatta has to be cancelled
for safety reasons, entry
fees will regrettably not be fully refundable.
